Module 1: Introduction to Functional Splanchnology

Splanchnology is the study of the viscera, i.e. digestive, respiratory, reproductive, urinary and circulatory. An organ (or viscus) is a collection of tissues joined in a structural unit to serve a common function. In anatomy, a viscus is an internal organ, and viscera is the plural form. Organs consist of different tissues, one or more of which prevail and determine its specific structure and function. Functionally related organs must cooperate to form whole organ systems. But more broadly, Splanchnology includes all the components of the Neuro-Endo-Immune (NEI) Supersystem.

Functional Splanchnology incorporates the Chiropractic scope of practice in addition to the laboratory testing used in Functional Medicine programs.

The internal environment of the body is referred to as the "terrain" or "biological terrain".
